The road from Fes
Day 1, Fes to Merzouga, 461 km. The pickup is at your hotel; if you are staying inside the Old Medina, where cars cannot go, you wait at one of the trip’s meeting points, Bab Boujloud among them, and the exact time and place come by WhatsApp or email the evening before. The road climbs south over the Middle Atlas to Ifrane and through its cedar forests, stops at Midelt, where you buy lunch, and runs down the Ziz Valley to a short stop at Erfoud. At Merzouga you leave your luggage at a hotel, ride a camel into the dunes for the sunset, and reach the camp for dinner under the stars and a Berber show round the fire.
Day 2, back to Fes. Sunrise over the dunes with breakfast, then the drive back to Fes.
Lunch, a local guide, tips and the mineral water at the camp are not included; bring bottles of water from the stops on the way.
